And The Week/Weekend Went On

Last week, it felt like I hurtled towards the weekend. In a good way, that is. Well, it helped that it was kinda' a short workweek.

Plus, on top of that, the weekend also felt like it passed by in a blink as well. Again, in a good way, that is.

(Warning: picture heavy)

... spending lunch outdoors one workday to soak up some sun...

Fennel and orange salad... pretending it's still summer...

... birthday cheers with hubs...

Pig on the Street for lunch...

PigLT (bacon, arugula, cheddar, avo, tomato w/ bacon & maple mayo)
... birthday tiramisu with friends...
... I say time for another change...
... the result...
Laura Mercier Mineral Powder... thanks to other sis...
Coach wristlet ... more gifts, from friends this time:p...
... part 3 of the birthday celebration... Oktoberfest!
... and what's Oktoberfest w/o weiners...

Hey, can't think of better things to be busy with and/or be exhausted from, eh? I'm a-okay with that, definitely... Sunday, recovery time, needless to say... hehe...

Hair Lesson

Ever since I found one hairstylist that I like working with, finally, I've decided that I would now go for regular visits, as in every 3 months or so (that is the usual, right?), as opposed to once every year, or year and a half (eeep!). So I did. After almost 4 months since my last visit, I booked a hair appointment, just this past weekend. It would have been sooner but he was on vacation (so that wasn't quite my fault now, was it?).

This was the idea for a new style:

Now before I post any more pic, the question is did I get this cut? The answer is no. Hah!

I've mentioned to him a few times that I always want something low maintenance coz I seriously don't have the patience anymore to stand in front of the mirror to blow-dry, flat-iron, texturize, shape and mold my hair. I would rather get an extra sleep. And thank god he was listening the whole time coz when I showed him this pic, the first thing he said was it would require too much work for me, considering the texture of my hair.

I'll admit I was disappointed for a millisecond, but the realist in me took over after that millisecond. Actually I think he was surprised that I suggested a totally different style. I think he thought I would just get the same asymmetrical bob I got before. Maybe it's just me, but I've always had this idea that if I'm going to a salon and make a production out of my haircut, it might as well be something totally different that it's really noticeable. Am I the only who thinks that way? And why do I think that way to begin with?

Anyhoot, I think I'm slowly moving away from that kind of thinking...

Then it got me thinking how it would be nice if every aspect of my decision-making has an equivalent to that of my hair guy... Should I go ahead and buy that thing?... Uhm, no because that would just create more expense... Should I go in that direction?... Uhm, no, because going in that direction would change your plan entirely... Kinda' like a live-in consultant in my head. Wouldn't that be cool? I suppose I could start seeing a shrink or something. HAH!

Trust my brain to over-analyze a haircut. A haircut!

So, after all that rambling, I did get a cut and this is how it looks now... hehe...

(Kinda') New Look, (Kinda') New Beginning

I'm probably speaking for a small minority when I say I happen to have no attachment to my hair whatsoever. Not in a way that some women feel that it's part of who they are. The rare times I do something with my hair, the stylist can chop it all off for all I care. Which is why I never understood when I hear a woman who refuses to let go and embrace change.

Although a  strange thing did happen shortly after I got married. Whereas I used to go regularly to a salon to maintain my hair, I just got lazy taking care of my hair after marriage. (Ok, maybe not so strange a thing since, whether I admit it or not, part of the whole dating ritual is maintaining your looks which includes the hair.) I have seriously gone, sometimes, for almost a year not seeing a stylist and just do my own color too at that! eeeek Considering how I shop as well, I really cannot justify the way I've neglected my hair all these times *sigh*

And this is how sad I know it's gotten. Every time I go to the salon I've been going to for the last 2 1/2 years (which says a lot, for starters, especially for me), which translates to 3 visits thus far *awkward smile*, I always end up seeing a different person coz the person who last cut my hair no longer works there. (Mind you, my stylist today did say that some of the staff are on work-holiday permits only which meant the longest they can stay in the country is a year, which I suppose could partly explain why the changes in stylist at every visit. I'm sticking to that excuse reason anyway)...

So having realized all that this weekend, thanks to hubs' push, decided to have my almost yearly visit and get me some change:p

BEFORE (mind you, this was taken in Dec,
but you get the idea)

AFTER

This is not a totally new look for me per se, as I've had this kind of asymmetrical (short on the back, although you can't see it from this pic, obviously) bob, but it almost is a new look, really, since I've let my hair grow so long for a quite some time now (guess that's what happens when you don't get it cut for a while, right? heehee).

And may I just say how glad I am to have finally gone!:p And so glad too I got the stylist I got today. This dude, Ryo, looks like you can just snap his pic and put him on any of those street style blogs, seriously! Now how can you go wrong with that kind of stylist, I tell ya. A stylish stylist! Hmmm, I may have just a found a new reason why I should maintain my hair more regularly, again. HAH! And I haven't even mentioned the assistant dude who, during the wash, massaged my head so well I almost fell asleep hehe

Oy, all of these ramblings just over hair?!? But is it?... Hmmm... Who just said she's not really attached to her hair... Hmmm...

Holiday Fetes

Hubby and I are homebodies at heart. I think so anyways. Take-out Chinese, movie and jammies is a fine way of spending a weekend evening, as far as I'm concerned. Now after work socials are another thing. The way I see it, I'm already out so why not:)

Aynhoot, even with the holidays such as the time we're in now, there's normally not much happening, other than the annual work and family celebration.

Having said that, this holiday season, it appears to be turning out the opposite of normal.

Last night, a girlfriend had an appy & wine party. And every Saturday, from last night til Christmas week, there's something happening, all around downtown.

Cray cray!

It should be fun!

So getting ready last night, got my outfit planned and all, then I thought I'd do something different with my hair.

BEFORE
AFTER

HAH!
As you can see, I'm not really good at this hair primping. Never have. It doesn't help that my hair is flat as a crepe:p Needless to say, that was the extent of that.

As part of my contribution for the evening's festivities, I decided to make this.

Stuffed mushrooms (with cream cheese, crab, bacon & veg)

I kinda' recalled seeing something similar on TV, so I thought I'd put my twist on it. It was the first time I made it. I know, not the smartest thing to try something unknown to bring to a party, but I thought, what the hey, live on the edge once in a while, hehe. Thank god it was delish!:)

A couple of people cancelled or backed out for valid reasons, I learned, so the evening turned out to be an intimate affair. Which I kinda' liked. When a party gets too big, I find it tends to break up into groups and conversations become chitchats. But with a smaller group, you all end up in one area then you get to know the other people much better. Mind you, most of us have met before, so in the end, it was nice catching up and all.

(there's my stuffed mushrooms in the round plate:p)

With appies galore and wine flowing out of our ears, couldn't have asked for a better get-together...

Cheers to the holiday season, good friends, sumptuous feast, and all the wine our bodies can handle!
teehee
